Volkswagen Golf GTI Launched in India at Rs.53 Lakh

Volkswagen has officially introduced the Golf GTI Mk 8.5 in India with a starting price of Rs.53 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the costliest Volkswagen model currently available in the country. This iconic hot hatch comes in as a CBU (Completely Built Unit), and the initial batch of 150 units has already been sold out. Based on the demand, the company plans to bring in an additional 100 units.

Hot Hatch Legacy: Golf GTI Returns

The Golf GTI is not just another performance car—it carries forward the legacy of the original Volkswagen Beetle and follows the now-discontinued Polo GTI as VW India's second GTI offering. Known globally for its performance and driving dynamics, the GTI nameplate is revered among enthusiasts.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the Golf GTI Mk 8.5 is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine, delivering 265hp and 370Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG) that drives the front wheels.

To enhance grip and control, the hot hatch features an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock.

Top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h

When compared to its closest rival, the Mini Cooper S, the Golf GTI is quicker and faster—Mini takes 6.6 seconds to 100 km/h and tops out at 242 km/h.
